Q

We really like puns in our office. Do you have any font or design puns? And please keep all arial jokes to a minimum.

Nathan Romero responded on 10/11/2011
A

I don't have any typography puns, but at my old office we had this thing where we tried to incorporate the word "bro" into everyday language. We'd come up with words and names like "Bro-prah Winfrey, "Adobe Bro-toshop" and "Angeline Bro-lie".

For fonts we came up with "Times New Bro-man", "Myriad Bro" and "Tabroma"

Q

So you photoshopped grades? What classes needed the most photoshopping and which were more your forte?

Nathan Romero responded on 10/11/2011
A

I was a pretty good student in high school (college is a different story). I think economics was the only class that ever gave me trouble. I did better in the sciences and had a particular interest in Biology.

In college, philosophy classes kicked my butt along with most upper division literature classes.

Q

What is your biggest strength as a designer, and what specific area would you love to improve on?

Nathan Romero responded on 10/11/2011
A

My biggest strength is sense of composition. It's that gut feeling of knowing where to put something so that it feels "right".

There are plenty areas of improvement. I'd like to know more about color theory, type-pairing, UI/UX design, front-end development. I still have a lot to learn!

Q

What are your favorite fonts right now? Which make you cringe?

Nathan Romero responded on 10/11/2011
A

I like a lot of the typefaces coming out of Hoefler & Frere-Jones. Gotham was a favorite for a while, but I've become more partial to typefaces with a little more vertical height like Knockout.

Lost Type is also putting out some great, free fonts!
